This project started with the City of Framingham, we partnered with Century Chinese Language School (CCLS) to stock every firetruck in the city with a set of waterproof vPal Medical Flip Cards. It is a set of 23 cards consisting of various Yes/No questions asking for symptoms and medical conditions, these cards serve to aid the first responders at the Framingham Fire Department by providing a quick and easy way to communicate with Chinese-speaking senior members of the community. By using the Medical Flip Cards, the first responders could quickly learn about the patients’ conditions and perform treatments accordingly. Along with the translation cards, the volunteers at the CCLS also helped to create a Chinese version of the File of Life, which goes into a red magnified pouch on the fridge. The file of Life contains crucial medical history and detailed prescription medication. The Chinese version can be filled out by seniors independently so it could be updated as frequently as needed. As volunteers, our goal is to make our Medical Flip Cards available for every fire department in the State of Massachusetts.
